Interlibrary Loan Service Rules

Our library system offers interlibrary loan (ILL) service to Latah County residents for items not available through the Valnet consortium catalog. We borrow materials from other U.S. libraries and we also loan materials to other libraries. Book purchase suggestions that have been declined are automatically forwarded to our ILL department.

• Your account can have no overdue items or fees.
• Borrowers may have only two active ILL requests at any one time, including items checked out and in process.
• A given ILL title may not be requested more than one time per calendar year.
• ILL items may not be renewed. The loan period is set by the lending library. Late fees are determined by the lending library.
• If the item you request is one year old or newer and is not purchased for our collection, no attempt will be made to borrow the item through ILL.
• Types of items that we cannot borrow include audio-visual materials, reference books, maps, issues of magazines and newspapers, and rare books.
• We cannot support college courses by providing required reading materials. Specialized subject materials for college research should be requested through the appropriate academic library.
• Latah County Library District attempts to secure interlibrary loan material as quickly as possible. However, we cannot guarantee the date material will arrive. In extreme cases, patrons may have to wait months for an interlibrary loan item.
